When you think of your dream car – is it racing red? Black, silver or another colour?
In reality, most cars are variants of white, silver and grey – simply because these are considered classic colours that won’t date quickly.
You’re not imagining it. Almost every second car today appears to be silver. Any why not. Boring, maybe, but you’ll be pleased to know that silver also remains the colour of choice for luxury vehicles. One third of all luxury vehicles are silver; another 30 per cent of them are diamond, crystal, snow, powder, cream, or some other version of white.
No matter how much you love the dark side, you’ll be in the minority. Even though it is a popular hue for cars in general, only 8.5 per cent of all luxury cars sold last year were black.
What does your car colour say about you?
A car colour often says a lot about your personality. Big, bold colours such as red and yellow are associated most often with sporty, young people and aggressive drivers,
- Dramatic colours, such as green and teal, connote a “performance aesthetic”.
- Neutral and faint colours are considered calm and luxurious.
- If you’re an adrenalin fiend, you’re going to choose red.
Selecting a car’s colour can be a matter of instinct. It can become complicated when you’re selecting as part of a duo.Traditionally, females play an important role in the selection of both the interior and exterior of the car.
But there’s more about the colour of a car than just telling the world you’re a cool kid or a fast driver. Colour also affects value.
If you’re selling a car that is painted or lined in an unpopular shade of, say, brown, it will decrease the residual value of your car by hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
White has been a popular colour of car for decades, it’s safe to safe this trend will continue. Silver appears to be the latest trend, it looks good, appears cleaner and, by default appears to be available as an option in moist new cars on sale today.
